Physical Education

  • Intent

We aim to develop and enrich our students by teaching essential life skills through the exciting and challenging world of sport. All students will leave the Academy with a good knowledge of how to live a healthy, active lifestyle and will appreciate the value of physical activity and lifelong participation. Through the PE and Health Curriculum we aim to develop the core values of our Academy so that every individual shows:
Ambition – to strive to be the best they can be.
Confidence – to participate, perform and lead.
Creativity – through their decision making, problem solving and use of strategies and tactics.
Respect – for themselves, their peers, teachers, officials.
Enthusiasm – when engaging in physical activity and sport. This should manifest itself in allaspects of life.
Determination – to lead a healthy, active lifestyle. To overcome barriers and challenges. To achieve their very best. At KS4, the OCR Sports Studies course allows students to build on their acquired skills, knowledge and understanding through a mixture of theoretical and practical means.

  • Impact

The PE and Health curriculum will enable students to develop their character, their leadership skills and be given opportunities to show their creative flair. The PE and Health curriculum will support and improve pupils’ physical and mental well-being as it prepares pupils for a life of health-enhancing physical activity through our core values. This curriculum also helps to develop empathy in young people for their peers with disabilities. Character and resilience will be developed that will help students to overcome the challenges they are likely to encounter in adult life. Students will be assessed against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that have been mapped so that the vast majority of students are working at or exceeding age expected learning which will allow them to be successful at KS3 and beyond. By the end of KS3, students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to help them succeed with the requirements of the OCR Sports Studies course, whilst at the same time providing students with an engaging and challenging curriculum
